Today, June 14, 2013, is Flag Day, a day to remember and celebrate our national Flag. It was on June 14, 1777, that our first official flag, “Stars and Stripes,” was designated. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday but has recognized by Act of Congress and Presidential Proclamation since 1949. Flag Day celebrates a birthday with the United States Army, which was officially formed two years earlier in 1775. Lawsuit Alleges “Religious” Malpractice

A Romanian lawyer filed a lawsuit against his local Orthodox Bishop and clergy alleging religious malpractice for failing to properly exorcise demons that had been plaguing him. The lawyer hired the clergymen to “exercise the demons which were responsible for the bad smells that were ruining his business” as well as haunting him in other ways. This is apparently the first Romanian lawsuit alleging “religious malpractice.” […]

UNL College of Law and Ex-Student Settle Lawsuit

A former University of Nebraska College of Law student has settled his discrimination lawsuit against the school. The lawsuit, filed in March of 2013, alleged that the man had been wrongfully dismissed from the law school. The school denied any wrongful action on its part and claimed that the man had been properly dismissed for allegedly plagiarizing a paper and other violations of the school’s honor code. The settlement is mostly confidential although some details are known. […]

Paterno Estate To Sue NCAA To Overturn Sanctions

The Estate of Joe Paterno intends on filing a lawsuit today against the NCAA and is seeking to overturn the NCAA sanctions against the school. The Estate is especially critical of the Freeh Report, which placed blamed on Joe Paterno and other Penn State Officials regarding Jerry Sandusky’s sexual assault of several young boys. The Estate wants Paterno’s name cleared and the Freeh Report discredited. […]

Today We Should All Be “Sooners”

I am an (almost) life-long Husker fan. Since the Nebraska vs. Oklahoma “Game of the Century,” played on November 25, 1971, I have always rooted against the Sooners. Events like those in Oklahoma yesterday, May 20, 2013, remind us that sports rivalries should be put aside when something tragic occurs. The lives of those killed, wounded and whose property was destroyed in Moore, Oklahoma City and the surrounding communities are more important than the outcome of any sporting event. While sports may keep us apart, today we should all be “Sooners.”

Cisco Study: Consumers Desire More Automated Automobiles

On May 14, 2013, Cisco released the results of its Cisco Customer Experience Report for Automobile Industry, May 2013, which focused on the automobile buying and driving experience. More than 1,500 consumers across 10 countries were surveyed and questioned about technology and buying and driving an automobile. Today, May 16, 2013, is “Give to Lincoln Day” a day dedicated to people living in Lincoln and Lancaster County, Nebraska, to donate money to local non-profit organizations. From 12:00 am to 11:59 pm people or companies can donate to qualifying local non-profit organizations. The Lincoln Community Foundation, who is sponsoring the day, along with other sponsors, will be giving away $200,000 as well to these non-profits. […]

Law Day 2013- May 1, 2013

May 1, 2013, marks Law Day 2013, an annual tradition since 1958. Law Day is a day to mark the United States’ commitment to the rule of law. This year’s Law Day theme is “Realizing the Dream: Equality for All” and is focused on civil rights and the impact it has had in promoting equality under the law. Law Day is celebrated and acknowledged in a number of ways including by members of the legal professional going to schools and making presentations about the year’s Law Day theme, which is chosen by the American Bar Association. The Lincoln Bar Association will again be making presentations to a number of high schools in Lincoln, Nebraska.
